Australian Indigenous Interiority and Cosmology

conference contribution
posted on 2023-05-23, 17:41 authored by Jacqueline PowerJacqueline Power
Written from within the discipline of interior architecture this article will explore Australian Indigenous cosmological models, as a basis to underpin the notion of architectural interiority. Firstly, the article will outline Australian Indigenous cosmology. Secondly, the utopian sky world will be considered. Thirdly, the article will outline methods of gaining access to and from the sky world. Fourthly, visual interiority will be discussed. This paper proposes a shifting of the lens in relation to interiority, a zooming out from the domestic vernacular tradition, to consider other means of engagement.
