There are common challenges facing all international students and there are some specific challenges facing those who undertake research degree courses. The following barriers are identified: language, learning styles, quality of supervisors, supportive environment, cultural differences, and physical health and psychological well-being. Some recommendations are provided at the end of the discussion.
