Summary 1. Predominant sales of walnuts in the UK are as shelled product not as an ingredient. 2. There is relatively little promotional activity around nuts in general (including walnuts) in UK supermarkets. 3. Use of walnuts in the UK is predominantly for cooking rather than as fresh nut snacks. 4. There is marked seasonality in demand for specialist walnut products (eg chocolate coated, pickled, in shell).
