Establishing Situations: three weeks expanding a site

University of Tasmania PhD candidate Jack Robins will build on what inspires a community, creating an expanding installation in Kelly's Garden that explores the words that provoke Hobart artists to create. "I primarily draw my inspiration from the words and works of artists such as Donald Judd, Sol Lewitt and Bruce Nauman. However, I'm also interested in what artists within the broader community have in common in terms of inspiration and where we differ." Robins will spend the mornings reading aloud material "donated" by other Hobart artists, ranging from art theory to nostalgic pop culture. In the afternoons, he will continue the construction of Establishing Situations: three weeks expanding a site”and what he builds will be heavily influenced by the words he has read.
