Photoperiod-induced precocious male sexual maturation in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar)

posted on 2023-05-16, 15:01 authored by King, H, Lee, PR, Pankhurst, NW
Precocious sexual maturation of male Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) was induced by photoperiod manipulation to shorten the time required for optimisation of sex inversion treatments. Exposure to a short-day photoperiod (8L:16D) prior to the summer solstice reduced the time to completion of sexual maturation from 3 years to 8-9 months for the majority of fish. © 2004 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
