The development of oocytes in association with changes in plasma concentrations of vitellogenin (Vtg), 17β-estradiol (E 2) and testosterone (T) was investigated in maturing female greenback flounder Rhombosolea tapirina over the first part of a reproductive season. During vitellogenesis, increasing oocyte size was accompanied by the sustained elevation of plasma Vtg and E 2. There was a marked increase in T towards the end of vitellogenesis. © 2004 Kluwer Academic Publishers.
