Abstract

Life Vessels: Speculations for an alternative genetic legacy' forms part of an ongoing series of works exploring the human desire for immortality and preservation of genetic information and familial heritage through alternative forms of reproduction based on new and emerging biotechnological processes including cell culture, synthetic biology and retroviral DNA integration. Comprised of three mixed media domes integrating organic specimens and 3D printed components, ‘Life Vessels’ engages with the concept of using viral vectors to produce a series of immortal cell lines from human tissue or ova.
