The Contamination of Alice: Instance #9 is an installation that draws together research across microbiology and cell and tissue culture. The work forms part of a series inspired by the fungal contamination of Saos-2 cancer cells, during routine cell culture at QUT’s Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI). The resulting works reference the literal infection of Alice’s Saos-2 cells, as well as the notion of creative contamination and the way in which different environments and unexpected encounters enable new possibilities for transformation. This latest instance employs a methodology of creative becoming to connect works developed across multiple timelines to comment on the agency of matter and interconnections between different elements.
