Mama K and the Big Love performed 13 original soul / funk / heathen gospel songs at the Hobart City Hall (Voicebox) as part of the 2017 Festival of Voices. The songs (written by David Johnstone) reference the early days of gospel and soul to weave the familiar 'call and response' sound into 60s based funky grooves. The Festival of Voices is Tasmania’s original marquee winter event. It is Australia’s premiere celebration of the voice and attracts audiences of 30,000 people over a two-week period in July. The reach and reputation of the Festival of Voices has grown far and wide. It has become known internationally as a special meeting place for singers.
