The project "Building Capability for in situ quantitative characterisation of the ocean water column using acoustic multibeam backscatter data " was funded for two years by the Catalyst:Seeding Fund of the Royal Society of New Zealand to organise two international workshops (WORKSHOP1, reported here, and WORKSHOP2 planned for next year). This fund is managed by the Royal Society of New Zealand (RSNZ), and aims to facilitate new small and medium pre-research strategic partnerships that cannot be supported through other means, and with a view to developing full collaborations that could be supported through large funds over time.
