To this end, 25 doctoral students in the Faculty of Education at the University of Tasmania participated in this study. Data were collected through an online survey and follow up interviews. The survey results show that doctoral students tend to prefer having a supervisory team which shares a similar disciplinary area to theirs. The interview data have also revealed that doctoral students received, wished to receive and/or sought support in the following areas: research direction, methodology, emotional support and administrative procedures.
