Evanescent interactions are not renormalizable

Evanescent interactions which disappear in four dimensions but which lead to divergences on the basis of power counting, are shown to be non-renormalizable. This result is not apparent at the one-loop level when the S-matrix elements are simple polynomials in the four-dimensional limit.
