Axial anomalies by dimensional reduction

All Abelian axial anomalies in two and four dimensions can be extracted by means of a generalised Gamma 5 which does not commute with the ordinary gamma matrices. The necessary properties of dimensionally reduced Gamma 5 for this to happen are exhibited. The ensuring normal amplitude anomalies can be subtracted away by finite coupling renormalisations.
