Abstract
Aquaculture seminar was opened in the Main Hall of Myeik University co-sponsored by
U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) Myanmar Aquaculture office and Department of
Marine Science on the third week of July. Approximately 250 attendees including Pro-
Rector, Academic and Administrative officials, Professors (Head of Department),
Lecturers, and students of Departments of Marine Science, Zoology and Botany were
on presence.
On seminar, Aquaculture Technical Manager Aubrey Winbaw delivered the use of
aquafeed formulated by high technology in both freshwater and brackish water
aquaculture industry. Then, Dr. Jennifer Cobcroft, University of Tasmania, Australia,
Aquaculture Without Frontier who supplies research technology at United KMK Co., Ltd.
in Myeik delivered the development of seabass hatchery and culture in Myanmar based
on research experiences in Australia. The seminar supports aquaculture courses at the
Departments of Marine Science, Zoology and Botany at Myeik University, and local
requirements, and provides advantages required by the State in terms of recruiting
marine resources by means of culturing brackish water seabass in replacement of overexploitation
of marine resources.
