Chalmers University of Technology is located in Gothenburg, on the west coast of Sweden. It was founded in 1829 following a donation by William Chalmers, director of the Swedish East India Company, and was transformed into an independent foundation in 1994. The division studies marine structures from an operation point of view, for example, how humans and environment are affected by current solution, how improvements ca be achieved and implemented. The department covers a broad area of expertise, which is reflected in the education, research, national industrial cooperation, and global network. The department is responsible for the education and the basic training programs of Ship Officers Class VII, Engineering Officers Class II, Master Mariners, Marine Engineers, and Shipping and Logistics.
