When scabies presents at the pharmacy

Four-year-old Amy has come into the pharmacy with her mum as she has been complaining of an intense itch on her hands for the past two weeks. She would like something to help relieve the itch.

After reading this article, pharmacists should be able to:

  • Understand the causes of scabies infection and the difficulties in correctly identifying the condition
  • Provide advice on appropriate treatment options and counsel on their use
  • Apply methods to prevent the infestation from spreading and reinfecting the patient and their family.
