posted on 2023-05-25, 12:50 authored by Nicholas HaywoodAcclaimed Finnish saxophonist Jari Perkiömäki is came to Tasmania in late July/early August as Artist in Residence at UTAS. A semi-finalist at the 1991 Thelonius Monk Saxophone Competition, he was the winner of Finnish Jazz Federation's "Yrjö" national award in 2005. His playing credits include performances with Kenny Garrett, Randy Brecker, James Moody, Frank Foster, and the UMO Jazz Orchestra. He will perform with acoustic bassist Nick Haywood, who has moved to Hobart in 2011 to take the role of Senior Lecturer, Contemporary Music at the University of Tasmania, joined by two of Haywood's longtime colleagues: Colin Hopkins (piano), and Tony Floyd (drums).
