Abstract

Gas chromatographic retention indices (Kovats' indices) are a valuable aid in the identification of monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes in essential oils and related natural and synthetic products. Some 900 Kovats' indices of 400 individual compounds on methyl silicone (dimethyl polysiloxane) and/or Carbowax 20M liquid phases are summarized from the general literature.
