Extending understanding of information technology innovation within organisational settings: Insights from an analysis of innovation research
This paper highlights that there are issues associated with current understandings of and definitions for information technology innovation. Whilst the literature concerning information technology development describes a range of important themes, ideas and facts about information technology innovation, it does not offer a clear definition of information technology innovation beyond the diffusion and adoption paradigms. Whilst the diffusion and adoption constructs are important, when we look to the innovation literature we can see elements of innovation operating outside of activities associated with diffusion and adoption. This paper presents an approach aimed at addressing the challenges of understanding and clarity associated with information technology innovation by extending insights from the innovation literature.
