Benthic macroalgal belts are hotspots of primary production in coastal waters all around the world. The high productivity and morphological diversity of macroalgae, ranging from small filaments to the hught thalli of giant kelp, create a structurally complex habitat for adiverse assemblage of organisms that live on the surface of algal community in the 'great aquatic forests'of South America.
