The concept that music can communicate and evoke an emotional response through its expression has long been accepted and parallels have been drawn between musical syntax and that of language. The dialogue evident in the music of Jean Fraçaix is such that the music appears to effectively convey conversations between instruments. This paper will suggest an original interpretation of the dialogue in several of Françaix's flute works, from flute solo to wind quintet, the crafting of these conversations and the execution of them in performance.
