Basement heat flow, past or present, is a key input parameter in geothermal or hydrocarbon maturation models but the scarcity of available reliable heat flow estimates is usually impeding basin or regional scale interpretation (Fig.1). This study proposes a GIS-based geologically-driven alternative workflow to the direct interpolation of heat flow data points to determine first pass regional variation of basement heat flow using publicly available datasets.
