The arts is one economic bright spot in Tas, where the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Hobart is seen as the catalyst for change and growth. The number of festivals growing, and attendances climbing. Performances packed at the inaugural Hobart Baroque Festival. Report commissioned by Ten Days On The Island estimating that the 2011 event added $24m to Tas's economy. Last year's Voices festival enjoying a 69% increase in attendances. MONA's latest festival Dark MOFO launched in Hobart last night, having secured three million dollars from the Tasmanian Government over the next three years; MONA's summer festival MOFO receiving $350,000 each year, except in 2010. Community arts groups finding it hard to get their voices heard. About four percent of Big Hart's turnover coming from the Federal Government.
