Although the theories related to English teaching and learning have been developed in Chinese universities over 30 years, the special needs of English teaching and learning, particularly, in vocational institutions, are arguable among researchers. There are huge differences within English curriculums between the normal Universities and vocational institutions because of the different English objectives, social need, and learning needs. Therefore, it is suggested that English for Occupational Purposes Model (EOP (English for Occupational Purposes)) should be applied to English teaching and learning in Chinese vocational institutions at present. This paper first introduces the English teaching and learning environment of Chinese vocational institutions as well as the EOP model. Secondly, it moves to present the theoretical foundations and necessaries to set up this model in vocational institutions. Thirdly, recommendations are provided for future research.
