significance assessment of the grote reber museum collection

report
posted on 2023-05-25, 16:01 authored by Karen BradfordKaren Bradford, Welkamp, A

This report is concerned primarily with the collection which comprises about 140 linear metre of objects and about 20 linear metre of paper material. Given that the provenance of the collection is from the estate of Grote Reber, it is unlikely to grow in the foreseeable future.

Our research was undertaken through site visits to the GRM which is located alongside the Mount Pleasant Radio Telescope Observatory in Cambridge just outside Hobart. Desktop research was also undertaken, including corresponding with a number of institutions with related collections. Two Tasmanian astronomers, each of whom had known and worked with Reber, were also interviewed, as was the Manager of the Museum.
