Festival of Voices
Andrew Legg is the curator and convenor for the Festival of Voices African American Gospel Music symposium and workshop sessions, and the chief liaison officer between FoV and UTAS for this event. He is also the chief advisor to the Artistic Director of the FoV, and a founding member of the FoV Board.
Legg was required to coordinate the international artist component of the workshop, including acquiring, booking and supporting the featured artist for this year’s festival, Mr Myron Butler. Butler is a five-times Grammy Award winner who has collaborated with Legg for over 10 years in writing original music for choir and gospel band. Legg then ran the workshop with Mr Butler, including rehearsing the choir, providing historical context for the works sung, accompanying Mr Butler for all rehearsals and performances including 2 radio broadcasts through the ABC (local 936), coordinating and rehearsing the gospel band, and performing at a major concert with Mr Butler and the combined Southern Gospel Choir and Festival choir.
Legg curates the international and African American gospel component of the festival, including: liaison and procurement of all artists; the selection and arrangement/transcription and type setting of all repertoire; vetting and auditioning of choirs and individuals for the workshops (210 people); enrolment of participants in UTAS units of study; and assessment of all workshop component participants.
