Abstract

The number of French citizens who have settled temporarily or permanently in Australia, has been estimated to 75000 according to the latest Census, with 2/3rds of these immigrants opting for dual French-Australian citizenship. The French have demonstrated an interest in Australia for more than half a century. With Canada, Australia is their most prized destination. For the past few years, the number of French-nationals in Australia has almost doubled. This tendency is explained, partly, by the tripling in two years, of young French citizens applying for an Australian 'Working Holiday' visa.
