Abstract

The Ontong Java Plateau (OJP) was the fo-cus of two legs of geophysical surveying(January through March, 1998) by scientistsfrom Japan, the United States, Norway andPoland (Figure 1). Both legs were led byAsahiko Taira onboard the University ofTokyo’s R/V Hakuho Maru. The expeditionhad several objectives. The most interestinggoal to ODP-oriented scientists was obtain-ing seismic data in support of proposedODP drilling by JOIDES Resolution duringits upcoming campaign in the Indian andPacific oceans.
