Abstract
Barrett's esophagus is a metaplastic change related to esophageal reflux of acidic gastric contents. Its presence is associated with an increased risk of adenocarcinoma. The data behind our current clinical strategies are, however, based on limited evidence. This document considers the sort of information that should be discussed with patients to allow them to make their own choices regarding therapeutic strategies. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd.
