Abstract

Erectile dysfunction (or impotence) is defined as the persistent inability to obtain and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. It is a common problem, affecting approximately one in five Australian men aged over 40 years. Often erectile dysfunction has a profound effect on a patientís intimate relationships, quality of life, and overall self-esteem.
