SCW (Stool crate wood)

Stool Crate Wood by Simon Ancher is product design research that investigates the potential in furniture design for an existing mass produced object: the ubiquitous milk crate. Globally, milk crates have long been used as makeshift seating and storage solutions. Stool Crate Wood references the work of Charles and Ray Eames in the development of a vacuum formed laminated plywood shell. Utilising the correct orientation and storage capacity of the crate, the shell was developed so as to offer an innovative superior seating solution, devoid of fixings. The SCW as a new product allows the portability and identity of the milk crate to be retained whilst simultaneously elevating it into a genuine furniture vernacular.
