Creating and expanding a vibrant performance focused jazz/commercial music degree in a regional center. The difficulties associated with non-metropolitan music degree delivery and the capitalization of both obvious and obscure regional idiosyncrasies to overcome those difficulties in a highly successful manner. The innovative practices that have bought about the current profile for the Bachelor of Jazz Studies such as strong industry links, the development of popular music ensembles, increased performance profile, artistic management of regional festivals, the creation of a certificate program and the industry mentor program are explained and expanded upon.
