Abstract
Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are among the top 10 leading chronic conditions in Australia, placing a significant social and economic burden on patients, families and the health care system. More than 5 million Australians are affected by asthma or COPD, and each year these diseases disrupt the daily lives and productivity of many individuals and contribute to thousands of deaths.
