Abstract
Over the past century Antarctica has been a fertile source of inspiration for explorers, scientists, writers and artists who have endeavoured to define and describe this vast white continent. Breaking Ice: Re-Visioning Antarctica explores these ideas, highlighting the ways in which this southern land has been perceived and imagined, historically and culturally. The exhibition also investigates what it is that makes this frozen wilderness so alluring and explores how it has become so embedded in the popular imagination.
