Abstract

The Calouste Gulbenkian Cultural Centre is happy to present the work of David Stephenson, an American photographer who settled in Australia in 1982. The exhibition is in perfect keeping with our current project of introducing to the Paris public artists who deserve to be better known. This is David Stephenson’s first exhibition in France. In a fascinating and comprehensive article in this catalogue, Jorge Calado, the curator of the exhibition, demonstrates the profound unity of the work and its subtle allusions to the idea of the sublime – the theme of the exhibition.
