A parametric study of wind loads on grandstand roofs

Boundary layer wind tunnel tests were performed on a model of a cantilever grandstand. Selected geometric parameters of the model were varied during the testing in an attempt to quantify the variation in roof wind loading for various configurations of grandstands and stadiums. In addition to the basic geometry, the effects of venting arrangements, leading edge fascias and structures upstream were also investigated. Design recommendations are presented for roofs that do not have a significant dynamic response. Design values for downward wind loads for cantilever roofs are also presented. © 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
