In an earlier paper a parametric study of wind loads on cantilevered grandstand roofs was reported. The effects of grandstand geometry, sub-roof venting, leading edge fascias and upstream structures were investigated in a comprehensive wind tunnel study. This paper takes this data and derives equivalent static wind load distributions for the design of simple cantilevered grandstand roofs. A trapezoidal load distribution is recommended over the current triangular distribution. Correlations measurements are reported which may be used to obtain equivalent static wind load distributions for other grandstand roof structural systems. © 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd.
