Samples of pinkspotted bollworm Pectinophora scutigera (Holdaway) were collected from a range of different host plants at 3 locations in Queensland. Cellulose acetate electrophoresis was used to determine if there was evidence that more than one species was present. Of 12 genetic loci examined, only 2 were polymorphic and allele frequencies differed very little among samples taken from different host plants or between locations. While the evidence is not conclusive, it suggests that all 3 populations are conspecific. Copyright © 1989, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
