The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is the research and science agency of the US Department of Justice. It encourages the adoption of evidence based crime control and criminal justice practices, and has supported and promoted police–researcher partnerships for over 20 years. Currently, the NIJ has a Law Enforcement Advancing Data and Science (LEADS) Agencies Program that seeks to assist agencies in developing their own capacity to use data and research to improve performance and effectiveness.
