Abstract

This paper provides pictorial models that can be used for solving mathematics problems, and to explain mathematical concepts. It does not attempt to be exhaustive but rather gives some examples of pictorial representations that teachers could use in teaching of selected concepts. The 'translation (dis)abilities' among students identified by Lesh, Post and Behr (1987) decades ago still remain. The papers aims to contribute to the remediation of these and enhance student proficiency with solving mathematics problems.
