Middle years : responding to the challenge
This article discusses issues for middle years of schooling set against the excitement of development and implementation of innovative curriculum, a robust teaching community, and a renewed focus on research into classroom practice. The issues identified are a declining sense of community, changes in family units, increasing youth homelessness, economic change, influence of mass media, new technologies, cultural identity, sexual mores and drugs. The author discusses preparing teachers for the middle years.
