Abstract
This manual describes variable retention (VR), an approach to harvesting that aims
to retain forest structure at the stand level and provide increased forest influence
over the regenerating stand. It also describes aggregated retention (ARN), the
silvicultural system that Sustainable Timber Tasmania has developed for harvesting
tall wet eucalypt forests using a variable retention approach . The advice provided
here is based on several years of operational experience, research and monitoring
Sincere thanks are extended to all those who have contributed to this document.
