Variable Retention Manual

This manual describes variable retention (VR), an approach to harvesting that aims to retain forest structure at the stand level and provide increased forest influence over the regenerating stand. It also describes aggregated retention (ARN), the silvicultural system that Sustainable Timber Tasmania has developed for harvesting tall wet eucalypt forests using a variable retention approach . The advice provided here is based on several years of operational experience, research and monitoring Sincere thanks are extended to all those who have contributed to this document.
