Abstract

The Riverina Summer School for Strings (RSSS), established in 1988 as a centre for teaching and learning of stringed instruments, has grown into a festival of national significance. The Sounds of Summer concert series, now running parallel to the school, was established by the school’s 3rd Music Director, Professor Goetz Richter. The changing demographic of string students and music appreciation in regional areas over 3 decades brings challenges for curating a concert series. The projected audience would include music students, professionals and members of the community. As the 4th Music Director of the festival, my research aim was to curate and present a concert series that would innovate, educate and entertain a diverse audience, via an inclusive yet cohesive artistic context.
