Ave Regina Coelorum

New performance edition prepared directly from the part books of Tomas Luis de Victoria Motets of 4, 5 and 6 parts published in Venice in 1572. Victoria's motet Ave Regina Coelorum is for five voice parts and this edition provides new solutions for ambiguous text underlay, correcting pitch errors and adding editorial accidentals (musica ficta) according to sixteenth-century performance practices. This new arrangement halves the original notated values for ease of reading by modern choristers and also transposes the work up a major third so that the range is suited to mixed voices SAATB rather than male voice choir. This edition was given its first performance on 19 July 2019 at St Mary's Cathedral Hobart by the St Mary's Cathedral choir under the direction of Ben Mackey.
