'We've always done it, country is our counselling office': Aboriginal men's health and bush adventure therapy
A postgraduate research qualification is now the standard entry qualification for an academic career, and can also open employment opportunities in larger organisations, which are engaging in research and development in their fields. There is a growing number of social work research practitioners whose innovative work seeks to improve social work practice. Five post graduate social work students (HDR - PhD, Masters by Research) from across the country will join the AASW National Research Committee to showcase the breadth of emerging social work research in relation to the conference agenda of ‘Challenging inequality.’ Using diverse methodologies, these HDR students examine: students with a disability in higher education; co-designing an intervention with children with Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and their families; the place of service users in social work supervision; bereaved children participating in research; and country as the counselling office for Aboriginal men in southern Tasmania. These HDR students will explain why they embarked on their post graduate research journey and their progress to date. These interactive sessions, which will include presentations of around 12 minutes each, invite conversations about the research projects and the potential of their contribution to practice. Audience discussion and commentary will be welcomed.
