Accurate data is needed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to self-determine how they may improve community health and wellbeing. A culturally appropriate and empowering model of data collection is through partnership with Indigenous Community Research Officers ('ICROs'). Emerging research suggests ICROs enable higher levels of participant retention and assist in more accurate data 'sense-making', each aligning with the goals and principles of Indigenous Data Sovereignty. This presentation explores how ICROs may be conducive to fostering and developing Indigenous Data Sovereignty and subsequently, the improvement of community health and wellbeing.
