The role of recruitment and training strategies in competency and performance of marine pilots

To achieve sustainble outcome, organisations require constantly modifying and evolving different aspects of their operation. Human resource is the most important aspect that plays a key role in the organisations success as they manage the most valuable asset of any organization. Human resources are key in achieving organizational goals and objectives. The performance of any employee in the organization depends on many factors such as recruitment and training process of the organization and the employee’s skill, competency and values. Thus, identification of factors affecting employee performance is one of the main objectives when considering human resources improvement. In the maritime industry the human resource management thus has a vital role in success of the organisation and in providing job satisfaction to the employees. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of factors such as recruitment and training processes of human resources and its impact on the training, skill development and performance of marine pilots. This quantitative study utilized questionnaire, descriptive and inferential statistics, SPSS 22 software and Delphi method to collect and analyze the data. The sample population chosen for the study based on Cochran model calculation was 33. According to the results of this research, the recruitment and training processes of pilots has a positive and significant relationship with the pilots’ overall performance.
