A technique based on an inert substrate/Pt/CEP actuator has been devised to allow in-situ tensile testing for the optimisation of an electromechanical actuator. This system has shown that maximum actuation of a PPy based actuator occurs for relatively thin film (30min growth time) of PPV/NO3 in a solution of KNO3 when scanned at scan rate of 10mV/s from −1.0 to 0V (vs. Ag/AgCl).
