Abstract
For seventy years the diplomatic balancing act known as 'One China' has afforded relatively peaceful relations between opposing ideologies on either side of the Taiwan Strait.
It’s also allowed Western nations to develop economic and cultural ties with both Taiwan and mainland China.
But what does 'One China' mean? Is it a power for peace? Or is it leading toward armed conflict in the Indo-Pacific?
