Meet these targets or else: government inspired psychopathy in the National Health Service

conference contribution
posted on 2023-05-23, 13:40 authored by Boddy, CR
The setting of impossible standards, benchmarks, targets and performance indicators for the NHS by the Government has reportedly meant that career oriented employees play the system to gain advancement but ignore and are unconcerned with actual improvements in patient care (Bower 2016). This conceptual paper argues that ruthless government targets, issued and actively monitored by the Department of Health, are a current source of systemic psychopathy with the National Health Service.
